At 11 p.m. last Thursday, the police were called to Byske after a young man behaved threateningly. Just minutes later, a multi-family house at the same location caught fire. The man is suspected of starting the fire, was arrested, and detained the same night. The offenses are classified as arson, serious unlawful threat, and attempted assault.
Last Friday, Norran reported extensive damage to the property after the fire. Now, the property owner Skebo has assessed the damages, and it is evident that a significant renovation and remediation effort will be needed.
– The apartment that caught fire is practically completely destroyed. The apartment above has been so heavily damaged by smoke that it's uninhabitable, but the tenant has arranged alternative accommodation through their insurance company for the time being, says Ersson, adding:
–Three more apartments have also been affected by smoke and soot. Ionization units have been deployed in these apartments, so they are still livable.
The apartment that was completely destroyed remains cordoned off pending a technical investigation. Ersson does not want to speculate on how long it might take before it becomes habitable again. The smoke-damaged apartment above is expected to take about a week to restore.
– Considering the circumstances, it has still gone well. It could have been much worse, concludes Ersson.
