On Tuesday morning, a regional broadband network was affected by extensive disruptions, which affected municipalities and Region Västerbotten, among others.
The broadband network is operated by AC-Net and the company announced shortly before 11 a.m. that the problems had been fixed.
David Lindström, CEO of AC-Net, the internet provider affected by the disruptions, confirms that the issues should now be resolved.
The company activated its crisis management team after the problems began at eight o’clock. By ten o’clock, the likely cause had been identified.
– It was one of the main units in the network that lost its configuration, its settings, says David Lindström, adding that the exact cause of the issue remains unclear.
Could it have been a hacker attack?
– At this time, I don’t want to speculate on the cause. I sincerely hope it wasn’t an attack.
By 10:45, the issue had been resolved.
The incident caused significant disruptions for many. According to SVT Nyheter Västerbotten, Region Västerbotten and 10 out of 15 municipalities in the county were affected.
What are your thoughts on what happened? It has clearly had a major impact.
– I completely agree. We play a crucial role in maintaining socially critical infrastructure. We believe we’ve done everything possible to prevent incidents like this, yet it still occurred. Now, we must thoroughly evaluate what happened and determine the root cause, says David Lindström.
