Emergency at police station in Skellefteå

The police and emergency services have rushed to the county administration board in Västerbotten, and the police station in Skellefteå, following an alarm about a dangerous substance. According to SVT, seven county administrative boards in Sweden have received similar alarms about suspicious objects.

Around 10.15 on Wednesday, the alarm came from the county administration on Storgatan in Umeå, VK writes .

– An envelope with white powder has been opened. Emergency services and the police are working together at the scene, says the SOS alarm operator.

According to SVT Nyheter, county administrations in Östergötland, Gotland, Uppsala, Västerås and Blekinge have also opened envelopes with white powder. At the same time , SVT Norrbotten reports that the county administrative board in Luleå has also received a similar alarm.

– It is a suspicious shipment in the form of a letter, says Jörgen Boman, communicator at the county administrative board in Västerbotten.

He says that he already received information on Wednesday morning that other county administrations had received a suspicious letter.

– During the morning we received information that we also received a similar one and have therefore alerted the police and emergency services.

A person at the county administration in Norrbotten has been exposed to a white powder that was in an envelope. The discovery of the powder took place in the morning.

– It is white powder in an envelope that has been opened. We have no information about what the letter contains, says the SOS operator. 

A room has been cordoned off and evacuated and emergency services and police are on the scene. 

According to SVT, a total of 18 county administrations in Sweden have received similar alarms.

Update 11.31:

Three ambulances, police and three vehicles from the rescue service are on site outside the county administration in Norrbotten.

Two people from the county administration in Östergötland have been taken to hospital. In Örebro, a room in the county board's office has been cordoned off. 

No one has been injured in connection with the opening of the letter at the county board in Västerbotten, states the county board's communicator Jörgen Boman.

At 11.55 an alarm was received from SOS about the release of a dangerous substance at the police station in Skellefteå. Norran is on the way to the scene. 

– Emergency services are on their way to the scene with two vehicles, says an operator at SOS.

According to Norran's reporters on the spot, Christoffer Åhlund and Peter Krikortz, personnel from the rescue service are now on their way into the police station. 

– They are wearing protective suits, breathing masks and have black garbage bags with them, says Åhlund.

Update 14.25:

In Malmö, the police have determined that the powder sent to the county administration is harmless. The police effort there has dissipated, but several other county administrations are still cordoned off, according to the police in the South region. A total of 18 county administrations around the country have received powder.

After the police examined the county administration's mailbox at the police station in Skellefteå, they were able to determine that there were no dangerous contents.

– It was just ordinary shipments, nothing dangerous at all, so the case is closed, says Lars Persson, acting local area police chief in Skellefteå.
