– We're using all the resources we have, says Jan Burlin, operations manager for streets and roads at Skellefteå municipality.
He adds that rain can still cause slippery conditions, even with anti-icing measures in place.
– Rain washes away the sand, and I always advise drivers to exercise caution, says Burlin.
Approximately twenty people are dedicated to anti-icing operations in central Skellefteå.
– I assume they'll be out tonight as well, as they're also conducting brake testing and other checks, he explains.
In the outlying areas of the municipality, the same personnel are responsible for both snow removal and anti-icing duties.
Burlin acknowledges that these individuals are also extremely busy on days like this.
Harriet Söder, CEO of the Västerbotten County Public Transport Authority, addressed the challenging road conditions:
– Public transportation in Västerbotten is facing significant disruptions today, Söder said.
– The situation is particularly difficult in Skellefteå, where we're experiencing 84 disruptions across the county.
These disruptions include complete cancellations on some lines, delays on others, and shortened routes on some services.
– While the E4 seems to be operational, and the coastal buses are running smoothly, travel on smaller roads becomes very challenging, Söder explained.
– We typically see a surge in inquiries to our customer service during such weather events. However, passengers have been very understanding. Our top priority is ensuring everyone's safety on the roads. I urge travellers to stay informed by checking our app or website, tabussen.nu, for the latest updates.
