At three o'clock on Sunday night, the alarm was raised for a fire in Ursviken, just outside Skellefteå. Resources from Skellefteå and Skelleftehamn were reinforced with units from Lövånger, Bureå, and Boliden.
In total, twelve rescue units were dispatched to the scene, and firefighting efforts lasted for nearly three hours. The fire involved a container adjacent to a building and a smaller outbuilding next to a garage.
The owner described the damage to his property as being confined to the interior and exterior of the container at the rear of the property.
– I'm concerned that there might be a connection to the fires that have occurred in previous years, he pointed out.
– It seems like someone is going around setting buildings on fire.
This latest fire is part of a disturbing pattern of arson attacks that has emerged in Ursviken, significantly impacting the local community.
The area has experienced a series of major fires, with the latest incident being the fourth significant blaze since 2017.
Residents of Ursviken have expressed growing frustration and concern over the continuous attacks.
Johann Kristiansson of the Skellefteå police tells Norran:
– As of Monday morning, we are developing guidelines for our investigative work, determining the necessary measures and their order. However, there are several investigative steps ahead, including interrogations, crime scene investigations, and other technical examinations.
Ursviken has been plagued by arson for several years since 2017. How does the police view this?
– It's certainly of interest to the police, says Kristiansson.
– We will review previous fires, identify any similarities, and examine the conclusions drawn from those investigations.
Residents are encouraged by the police to remain alert and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. Enhanced neighborhood watch programs and increased surveillance could play a crucial role in deterring potential arsonists and improving the overall safety of the area.
