The incident has left residents with a sense of unease.
– It's very tragic. It feels eerie and unpleasant, says resident Kim Lundmark.
However, she emphasizes that the incident hasn't changed her perception of Skelleftehamn's safety.
– It hasn't affected me in that way. Skelleftehamn has had a bad reputation, but I haven't sensed anything during the time I've lived here. That reputation feels undeserved.
Others echo this sentiment. Lars Lundström, visiting Skelleftehamn for work, says,:
– The first reaction is that it's unpleasant. It's not the first time things like this have happened in Skelleftehamn.
However, he feels safe, noting:
– I roam quite a bit around the streets here for work. You used to see gangs around here, but not so much anymore.
Melissa Wallin Wehling, a resident since 2009, expresses sadness for the victim.
– It's terrible. It seems to have been a son who had problems, but then you never know the background to it all. But things like this should not happen.
Despite living on the same street where the incident occurred, she maintains a positive view of her community.
– I think it's very cozy in Skelleftehamn. I've been looking for this ghetto that people talk about existing here but have never found it.
Ronny Berglund, originally from Skelleftehamn, views the incident as a tragic family event.
He believes Skelleftehamn has an undeserved reputation.
– I think it has a bad reputation compared to how it really is. Tragic things do happen here, but they happen in almost every place.
He emphasizes the town's positive aspects.
– We live very nicely here near the sea, and it's basically a quiet area. It's certainly no worse than any other areas.
