Despite the economic challenges facing Samhällsbyggnadsbolaget (SBB), ongoing projects are progressing smoothly. In Skelleftehamn, former CEO Ilija Batljan laid the first foundation stone last autumn, and in another year, by August 2024, the first two blocks will be ready for occupancy.
The way they're building is old-school - they're pouring the concrete right where the buildings are. The first two blocks are almost finished on the outside, the two in the middle have their main parts finished, and they've just started pouring concrete for the last two.
Another traditional construction technique involves bricklaying, and that's how the façade is being built. This doesn't involve thin panels made to look like bricks; it's actual stones manually placed by a mason.
– The aim is to create a low-maintenance and durable façade, says site manager Michel Edberg.
Edberg notes that they've received very positive feedback from the local population.
– Most people seem to think it's good that there's construction happening in the area.
Samhällsbyggnadsbolaget is the owner of the upcoming buildings, and the apartments will be released for rental by Home Q, the company's subsidiary. The first release is planned for the first quarter of 2024, with move-in expected this time next year.
Blocks two and three will be ready for move-in by late autumn 2024, while buildings five and six will be completed in spring 2025. In total, 180 new apartments will have been constructed, including one-room, two-room, and three-room units.
