Northvolt Ett, is now ramping up production at two production facilities while construction of the next three is underway. The goal is an annual production capacity of 60 GWh, which equates to battery cells for about one million cars.
Northvolt had previously stated that the volume produced last year was expected to be less than 1GWh.
– This year's volume is not important. What's important is that we keep our commitments to customers and set the processes in place to move towards optimal yield next year (2023), group CEO Peter Carlsson told Norran last autumn.
He then noted that the ramp-up to series production "in reality" occurred in late spring 2022, with each line taking 18 months to reach target production.
– We will not reach full capacity until the end of 2024 at the earliest, Carlsson explained.
According to the annual report, Northvolt Ett made its "first commercial delivery of cells" from Northvolt Ett in Skellefteå in 2022. The company's turnover last year was 131 million kronor, of which 37 million kronor was in the Swedish market.
The ongoing development is further explained in the annual report:
"During 2023, Northvolt's focus is on further expanding large-scale production in Skellefteå. The group aims to achieve a market share of approximately 25 percent in Europe by 2030, which is estimated to mean a production capacity of approximately 150 GWh."
