Over the weekend and on Monday, the temperature in Skellefteå hovered between 25 and 30 degrees below zero at night. But now the deep cold seems to be loosening its grip on the city. "Milder air is already moving in today, Tuesday," says Linnea Rehn Wittskog, a meteorologist at SMHI.
While the Winter Swim took place over the weekend, temperatures in the Skellefteå area hovered around minus 25 to thirty degrees during the nights. But now the cold seems to be easing, says Linnea Rehn Wittskog, a meteorologist at SMHI.
– Milder air is already moving in today, Tuesday. By the middle of the day, temperatures are expected to rise to about 15 degrees below zero, she says.
Snowfall is expected during Tuesday evening and night, but it won't resemble the snow chaos that has recently hit the Skellefteå area.
– It's not a lot of snow, but about 5 centimeters of fresh snow, says Rehn Wittskog.
Temperatures are expected to rise during the week.
– On Wednesday, it's expected to be 7 to 8 degrees below zero, she says.
Milder weather is forecast for the weekend, and the sun is expected to make an appearance.
– On Friday, it'll only be a few degrees below zero in Skellefteå. Over the weekend the weather will be more high pressure oriented. Saturday will be sunny with temperatures around 4 degrees below zero during the day. Sunday is expected to be sunny with varying clouds and temperatures around four degrees below zero.
Is there any chance of an early spring?
–The SMHI only looks ten days ahead. But it looks like it might get a little colder already next week, but not as cold as last weekend: winter will continue, says Rehn Wittskog.
