Next year's winter swimming event will take place on February 22 and 23, organizers announced in a press release. A new addition to the 2025 event is the World Cup final, which will be held in Skelleftehamn. The move to Kurjoviken has enabled more clubs to participate and allowed for a two-day competition format.
"As there's no current in Kurjoviken, we can now incorporate 200-meter long-distance races, which will be welcomed by the international swimmers competing for the World Cup title," says Lars Westerlund from Mörkrets and Kylan's Glada Vänner in the press release.
Last year, 421 swimmers from 16 nations competed on 43 teams.
– We were a bit concerned that moving the event might lead to logistical challenges and fewer spectators. But it was a resounding success, says Jarkko Engqvist from Mörkrets and Kylan’s Glad Friends.
The organizers believe that both companies and associations have committed to making Kurjoviken the long-term home of winter swimming.
"Our ambition is for Kurjovikens Havsmarina to become a global center for winter swimming, hosting various year-round activities related to this unique sport," says Ulf Marklund from the Kustnära Utveckling association, in the press release.
