UPDATE: 09:15

On Thursday, the investigation was led by public prosecutor Anna Nilsson:

– I can confirm that the two suspects remain in custody and that interrogations are scheduled for Friday. Beyond that, I do not wish to comment, partly because it is still early in the preliminary investigation and partly due to the confidentiality of the case. For example, I cannot answer your question about why the violation of the Act on Flammable and Explosive Goods is being treated as a serious crime, she explains.

The fact that it is classified as a serious crime could be related to factors such as the sheer quantity of flammable and explosive materials discovered by the police, the suspected bomb-making occurring in a densely populated area, the intended purpose of the manufacture, and how the explosives might have been used within criminal networks.

When Norran visits the cordoned-off property on Thursday, a local resident walks by.

– It’s lucky they discovered it before anything happened, he says.

The man expresses concern and surprise that such a serious crime is suspected to have occurred in the town.

– A few years ago, you wouldn’t have thought something like this could happen in Skellefteå.

Police technicians have arrived at the property in Norrböle, where narcotics and dangerous explosive materials have been discovered. Earlier on Wednesday, police confirmed that the bomb disposal unit was en route to the location.
