The popular Wa Sushi restaurant has left its premises on Nygatan. The restaurant thanked all its customers this week on its social media.
"We want to give the new owners all our warmest congratulations and wish them the same warm reception that we received," they write on their Facebook page.
The premises have now been bought by Kaj Eman, who plans to open his own restaurant called Asia. Right now, Kaj works as a locum doctor in Skellefteå.
– We will have Thai food and sushi. We will have lunch buffets between 11.00 and 14.00. We will offer takeaways and we will also provide catering for those who might want to have a party at home. We'll see if we cooperate with Foodora on home delivery as well, he says.
Kaj Eman originally comes from Thailand but has lived in Sweden for 20 years. He tells us that several of hisThai friends will cook the food at the restaurant.
- They cook food exactly the way I want it and the way it tastes in Thailand. I don't want to adapt Thai food so that it becomes something else. We can reduce its spiciness, but the texture should be just like Thai food and nothing else, he says.
The venue is being renovated and the plan is to open at the beginning of April. Kaj's plan is to run the restaurant while working as a locum doctor. He has never worked in a restaurant before.
- My sister has had a restaurant. There are thirteen siblings in my family and many were very good at cooking. I come from a very poor family, but they have always cooked and as a result I think food is fun. Even though I became a doctor, I was sure that I would still open a restaurant, he says.
Will you have time to run Asia while working as a locum doctor?
- I like our team and we have planned this for quite some time and worked together. I trust them and they trust me, he says and continues:
- It is my staff who will work and then I will come in and check with them in the evening before I go home.
You are opening a restaurant during a recession. Doesn''t that scare you?
- We have been planning this for a long time. I understand that it's a recession, but if you have good food and good service, I think you can make it, says Kaj Edman.
