Skellefteå Airport targeted by hackers

Skellefteå Airport's website was down for three hours on Wednesday with a Sudanese hacker group claiming responsibility. "Anonymous Sudan" has in the past 24 hours claimed to be behind several hacker attacks against Sweden and now also the attack on Skellefteå Airport.

Visitors trying to access Skellefteå Airport's website were met with error codes on Wednesday morning and partially into the afternoon. The hacker group "Anonymous Sudan" claimed responsibility, perhaps because of Rasmus Paludan's burning of the Koran earlier this year, although other observers believe Russia may be behind the digital attack.

Via their social media, the Sudanese group have stated:

"We have shut down websites for Swedish airports because of Sweden's Koran burnings".

"Anonymous Sudan" has in the past 24 hours taken on several similar hacker attacks, including against SVT.

However, SVT Nyheter has spoken to experts who believe that it may in fact be a Russian IT attack against Sweden.

– Anonymous Sudan has acted in line with pro-Russian interests, says Marcus Murray, IT security expert, to SVT.

Update 11.50:

–  Thankfully, this is not something that affects the flight operations, i.e. transporting passengers. Flights ran as usual, Per-Erik Morén, technical manager at Skellefteå Airport says.

Considering the cyber attacks of the last few days, Morén is not surprised that Skellefteå Airport has also been affected.

– It is of course boring and sad to be attacked in this way. We have known that this has been going on for a few days, that there have been attacks on SAS recently and today on Lufthansa.

At 14:00 on Wednesday afternoon, the website started working again.
