Skellefteå may be a low-crime area, but residents still need to take precautions when leaving their homes for a few days.

In a Facebook post, the police listed several tips to help prevent burglaries:

  • Best advice: ask neighbors to keep an eye out. Break-ins are less likely to happen when neighbors look out for each other.
  • Have someone empty your mailbox. A full mailbox is a sign that no one is home.
  • Use timers on lamps to turn them on and off at different times. This creates the illusion that someone is home.
  • Don't announce on social media or voicemail that you're away.
  • Leave outdoor lights on.
  • Consider upgrading your locks and installing a security system or camera.

The police also remind residents to report any suspicious activity to the police immediately.

Tips for staying safe during the Easter break:

  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Trust your instincts.
  • If you see something, say something.
  • Report any suspicious activity to the police immediately.

The police say that following these tips, you can help keep your home and community safe during the Easter break.
