Skellefteå Kraft to use helicopters
Throughout the night, crews have been working to repair electrical faults wherever possible.
– Given the weather conditions, our crews have had to continuously assess safety risks, says Evalena Karlsson of Skellefteå Kraft.
The company has reinforced its workforce with additional help from other electricity companies.
– We have crews working on all lines experiencing outages. It's a dynamic situation, and we also have forestry machines clearing roads, she explains.
As soon as weather conditions permit, Skellefteå Kraft plans to deploy two helicopters to survey the transmission lines.
– This will allow us to quickly identify areas requiring repair, such as breaks caused by fallen trees, says Karlsson. The hope is that the helicopters can take flight on Saturday.
Many customers have been without power for an extended period. When asked about restoration times, Karlsson stated:
– We understand the difficulties this causes for everyone affected. We're prioritising repairs to restore power to as many people as possible. While we can't provide an exact timeline, our crews are working diligently, and with daylight now, we aim to restore power to as many customers as possible today, provided the number of outages doesn't increase.

The storm has already begun to increase intensity in the region between Skellefteå and south of Robertsfors. Starting at midnight, the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) has upgraded the warning level from yellow to orange.
In response to the severe weather, emergency services are bolstering their response capabilities.
– We're adding extra tracked vehicles (trucks that look a little like tanks) from Trafikverket to our fleet, says Ola Lindström of Skellefteå emergency services.
– In addition to our own tracked vehicle, we're receiving three more from Trafikverket, which will arrive tonight.
The additional tracked vehicles will be used to assist with critical tasks, such as:
- Medical transport: Transporting patients in urgent situations.
- Home care support: Assisting home care workers in reaching residents during severe weather.
Lindström emphasises the importance of being prepared for potential worst-case scenarios, and the tracked vehicles will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.

Drivers have expressed concerns about the challenging conditions.
– Visibility is the biggest issue right now, and it's a major safety hazard, says one driver.
– We prioritise safety and would rather cancel trips than risk accidents.
Skellefteå Buss maintains open communication with drivers through various channels. They share information about road conditions and receive updates from drivers on the ground.
Mårtensson acknowledges the inconvenience caused by the cancellations.
– We apologize to our passengers for any disruptions. Our top priority is safety, and we believe our customers understand that. However, we know it's frustrating when a bus doesn't show up.

Snow chaos disrupts flights in and out of Skellefteå
A flight scheduled to arrive in Skellefteå at 15:15 and depart for Stockholm at 15:45 has been cancelled due to heavy snowfall in Stockholm.
– It's not the snow here in Skellefteå that's causing the problem, but rather the conditions at Arlanda Airport, explained Robert Lindberg, CEO of Skellefteå Airport.
– With Arlanda's high volume of departures, even moderate snowfall can lead to significant disruptions and delays.
Norwegian's flight from Stockholm, originally scheduled to land in Skellefteå at 17:25, has also been affected. The current estimated arrival time is 17:50.
Despite the challenging weather conditions, Skellefteå Airport has managed to keep operations running smoothly.
– Clearing over 110,000 square meters of snow has been a Herculean effort by our staff, said Lindberg.
– However, with fewer departures than a major hub like Arlanda, we've been able to avoid significant disruptions.
To ensure minimal impact on future flights, the airport team is working tirelessly to keep the runways clear.
– We're experienced in handling snow, and we're committed to maintaining operations, said Lindberg.
– However, we urge all travellers to monitor their airline's websites for the most up-to-date flight information.

E4 has been reopened.
However, the emergency services have had a busy morning responding to numerous accidents and fallen trees in Bureå and Lövånger.
– It doesn't look like the weather will improve, says Daniel Andersson, a spokesperson for the Skellefteå rescue service.
– We've been warned that the weather alert may soon be upgraded from yellow to orange.
An orange weather warning indicates that people should consider staying indoors and avoiding unnecessary travel.
– It's not just about getting out safely, but also about being able to get home safely, Andersson warns.
He urges the public to reschedule any non-essential plans, avoid driving, and reduce speed and increase distance between vehicles if they must travel.
