This news comes as Skellefteå experiences a period of rapid growth, attracting new businesses and residents.

"The development in Skellefteå, with significant investments from companies, creates a strong need for good air travel connections," said Geir Karlsen, CEO of Norwegian, in a press release. "Currently, there are limited flight options, so we're pleased to announce this new route."

Skellefteå Airport CEO, Robert Lindberg, echoed this sentiment.

– Skellefteå's rapid growth demands good accessibility, he said.

–  We're seeing an increase in passengers, and Norwegian's arrival provides space for expanded air traffic. This is great news for businesses, residents, and the tourism industry. They will now benefit from more options and improved accessibility.

The new direct route will operate five days a week (round trip) starting October 28. The schedule includes Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

– This translates to an additional 100,000 flight seats per year. It's important to note that Skellefteå Airport is the only growing airport in Sweden, said Lindberg.

Robert Lindberg, CEO Skellefteå Airport, is pleased with the announcement from Norwegian.

Local businesses, the Chamber of Commerce, and Skellefteå's municipal director, Kristina Sundin Jonsson, all played a role in attracting Norwegian back to Skellefteå.

Jonsson expressed her satisfaction:

– Skellefteå has experienced the highest population growth in Sweden during the first half of this year. We also see the most investments per capita here. Good travel infrastructure is crucial for our overall development, so this announcement by Skellefteå Airport and Norwegian is very gratifying.

Norwegian previously operated flights to Skellefteå between 2017 and 2018. The airline currently serves over 120 destinations worldwide.
