Extended bus routes benefit Skellefteå's outlying areas

Bus services to towns and villages outside Skellefteå's will be improved, including night buses to several communities. Most of the new routes will pass through Kåge, where many Northvolt employees live. "This is a significant and important step we are taking now,'" says municipal councillor Lorents Burman of the Social Democrats.

There will be night buses on Fridays and Saturdays to Boliden, Burträsk, Bureå, and Byske. Kåge will have night buses seven days a week.

The municipality, Skellefteå Buss, and Länstrafiken have jointly planned expanded regional transport. One major change is to start running more nightbuses. These will run on Fridays and Saturdays to Burträsk, Bureå, Boliden and Byske.

– The demand for public transport is increasing, and therefore night buses will run between Skellefteå and Kåge seven days a week, says Burman.

The night buses will depart from Skellefteå at midnight on a return journey.

There have been many requests from the areas north of Skellefteå to be able to use public transport to commute to Northvolt during the week. There have also been requests for bus routes so that those from Kåge can visit theatres, restaurants, cinemas and more. Those working late shifts at the hospital will also benefit from the extended evening service.

The need is estimated to be greatest in the Kåge area. Kåge is served by two bus routes.

– Kåge has the advantage that routes 210 and 212 already serve the community, which means that with minor adjustments we can provide an excellent service for most of the day.

There will also now be more bus services in the evenings.

Bureå will also get a new late service from Monday to Friday. A bus will leave Bureå at 22:40.

The times for the train-bus will also change. This applies to both the Skellefteå-Bastuträsk line and the Skellefteå-Boliden-Jörn line.

The total investment in the extended bus services is 1.7 million kronor The new routes will start on December 10 and continue until the start of the summer timetable on June 15.
