The municipality's marketing manager, Helena Renström, reveals that there has been an increase of 1,378 people in Skellefteå so far this year, compared to 1,009 people throughout 2022.
The news service Newsworthy has compiled statistics on population growth in the municipality of Skellefteå. It shows that the municipality has increased its population by three percent in the last ten years up to the turn of the year.
However, the population is not growing everywhere. In the center of Skellefteå, the population has increased by 33 percent or 1,175 people in ten years. In the Jörn-Boliden area, however, the population has decreased by 258 people, or nine percent, during the same period.
The total population of the urban area of Skellefteå has increased by 2,152 during this period. In other areas of the municipality, the population has increased by 262 people.
The statistics also show where most families with children live, and it is in the northern Morö Backe area where 49 percent of households have children. In central Skellefteå, only nine percent of households have children.
If you are single and interested in dating, your best chances are in Moröhöjden and the center of Morö Backe, where 68 percent of households are single. Central Skellefteå and eastern Norrböle are also good, with 62 and 61 percent single households, respectively. However, northern Morö Backe, Bergsbyn and Kåge only have 21 to 28 percent single-person households.
Helena Renström, marketing manager at Skellefteå municipality, explains that people who move here tend to look for areas where new housing is being built. This has happened, for example, in the city center, Sjungande Dalen and Kåge.
– But it is also a question of whether they are registered in the area, otherwise we don't have the information. Guest workers, for example, may not be included.
What are the preferences of those moving here?
– Many of those who move here from other countries appreciate living outside the city center. We've heard of cases where people think it's going to be very expensive to live by the sea because it's expensive to do so where they come from, but that's not always the case here. They can appreciate nature, the location and living quite close to a city.
She adds that, despite everything, the greatest demand is for central locations and within commuting distance to work.

– Where can I find housing? Then there are questions about schools, preschools, services, proximity to outdoor activities and public transportation.
Meanwhile, the population of Norsjö municipality has decreased by five percent over the past decade. The population in the Norsjö urban area has decreased by 25 people, and in the surrounding areas by 203 people.
The population of Malå has decreased by four percent. The population increased in Malå västra (western Malå), while it decreased in Malå and Malå östra (eastern Malå).
