The award-winning design is the same for the company’s gin bottles as the vodka bottle the company will shortly release in the UK.
– We are very nervous about what the Brits will think about our product. We really think it has potential to become a favourite, says Jakob who runs the distillery in Boviken together with Jón Óskar Arnason and Konrad Bergström.
The German Design Award is a prestigious prize that awards exceptional design projects within different categories such as product design, communication design and architecture. The prize is awarded by the German Design Council and aims to encourage innovation and sustainable development within design.
Each year an international jury of design experts come together to assess submitted projects based on criteria such as idea, form, function, differentiation and sustainability. The prize for 2024 will be awarded at a gala in Frankfurt on 26 January 2025.
– Receiving this acknowledgement from an international jury is evidence of our design holding its own in a global context. It strengthens us in our ambition to build a brand that stands out on the international scene, says Jakob.
He says that he has given the gin and vodka bottles a design that is to reflect the drinks’ fresh and sophisticated character.
– We have focused on balancing tradition with innovation, with a design that is both aesthetically pleasing and practical, says Jakob.
The prize Ógin Distillery has been awarded is in the category Excellent Communication Design, Packaging. Another Skellefteå company who will receive an award at the gala in Frankfurt is the electric snowmobile company Vidde from Jörn.
Ógin Barley Vodka which was launched in December 2023, has a clean and smooth taste with a touch of pear, citrus and herbs and has a local flavour as the malting barley comes from the farm Renbergsvattnets Lantbruk. The vodka is served cold as a shot or can be used as a cocktail ingredient.
– Our vision is to combine high quality produce with a design that creates a complete experience. It’s very inspiring to see that what we have created is appreciated by both customers and industry experts, Jakob Nylund concludes.
The distillery was started in 2020 and currently produces five different gins; Ógin Nature, Ógin Cloud, Ógin Arctic, Ógin Pink and Ógin Barrel.
