It's the much sought-after European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture; Mies van der Rohe Awards.
The award is given every two years and highlights architecture with a particular focus on technical, social, aesthetic, and sustainability aspects.
– We are very pleased with the nomination. It is proof of architecture's ability to bring people and cultures together while enriching an entire region, say Robert Schmitz and Oskar Norelius, responsible architects, in a press release.
The cultural center makes an intentional nod to the city's tradition of wooden construction.
– By designing the cultural center entirely in wood, the city's wooden heritage is brought into a new era while expanding the potential uses of wood as a building material," say Robert Schmitz and Oskar Norelius.
The award will be presented in May 2024.
