On Thursday evening, Peter Carlsson, founder and CEO of Northvolt, was named Sweden's top entrepreneur at the national final of EY Entrepreneur Of The Year.
He will thus represents Sweden in the world finals in Monaco in June.
Northvolt is a battery developer and manufacturer, specialising in lithium-ion technology for electric vehicles, with a manufacturing plant in Skellefteå.
The jury's reasoning for the award was: "Great visions and unparalleled courage are two characteristics that distinguish Peter Carlsson. He has put Sweden on the map by leading the way for a movement of decisive importance for the future. With renewable energy as a means and a green transition as a goal, Peter Carlsson wants to be involved in changing the world".
Peter Carlsson founded Northvolt with Paolo Cerruti in 2016. They have built an electric battery plant in Skellefteå and have taken orders of more than 550 billion kronor and attracted customers such as Volkswagen, BMW, Scania and Volvo Cars. The expansion will continue with plans for several factories in Europe, with the goal of building the most durable battery in the world to enable the transition to renewable energy.
– A large part of entrepreneurship is about being able to sell a vision for something that does not yet exist, in order to then be able to make the dream come true. That Peter Carlsson is now pushing through one of the largest industrial investments in modern history shows that he and Northvolt are well on their way to success. He shows incredible boldness that I believe will inspire a whole new generation of entrepreneurs, says Günther Mårder, chairman of the jury for EY Entrepreneur Of The Year, in a statement.
