Northvolt explosion victim dies

The man who was injured in the explosion at Northvolt on November 4 has now died. Earlier today, another man was confirmed to have died in an accident yesterday. Peter Carlsson, CEO, has commented, saying "the situation is devastating".

UPDATE: 13:30: Peter Carlsson, CEO of Northvolt, comments on the fatal accidents in a press release:

– Yesterday, a crane was used at our construction site and an accident occurred in which two people were injured, one of whom has now died from his injuries. We are in close contact with NCC (the men's employer) and are assisting them and their employees with the crisis management and investigation of the incident.

At the same time, we have received news that our colleague who was injured in a production accident in November has died in hospital. He was an ambitious, positive and highly valued colleague, and it is incredibly painful to lose him.

The investigation into the accident has progressed in conjunction with the relevant authorities.

– Measures have been taken, and support has been given to the family and colleagues. We now gather in mourning. The situation is devastating, and we are now working hour by hour to help each other through it.

UPDATE: 11:28: On November 4, a man in his mid-20s was seriously burned in an explosion in Northvolt. He was treated for a long time at Uppsala Academic Hospital, but has now died, the hospital reports.

He arrived at the hospital in Uppsala on November 5, and the last update on the man's condition came today, December 15.

The man was a European citizen, and was registered in Skellefteå municipality.

Earlier on Friday it was announced that a man in his 60s had died in a crane accident at the Northvolt site on Thursday. The man was from Skellefteå municipality and worked for NCC, which was building a concrete foundation at the Northvolt site when the accident occurred. During construction, a mobile crane fell on two workers.

A man in his 20s was also seriously injured in the accident. He is currently in intensive care at Norrland University Hospital for internal and external injuries. His life is not in danger.
