The new building will have a souterrain level where there are plans for a 250 square metre restaurant including some public space. It will primarily be used by people in the building and in the near-by area but it will be open to the public.
– It will be a restaurant for all of Skellefteå. This is thanks to the campus expanding. The restaurant will be built so that it can accommodate events, companies and training days, says business developer Sanna Orellano.
Sustainability in all shapes and forms is at the heart of the building – and the goal is for the restaurant to be part of that spirit.
– Together with the IVL environmental research institute we are now looking over the opportunities for the restaurant so that it can be in harmony with the rest of the building. We hope that it can function as an innovation platform where stakeholders can experiment and explore new methods and approaches for a sustainable food system.
Right now there are ongoing dialogues to see how such a project could be developed.
– A sustainable food system is an important part of the transition and we know that there are different sustainable food handling solutions in development. We want to find a stakeholder who wants to run such an operation.
The development of the new restaurant naturally means an opportunity to have a greater focus on the area down towards the Skellefteå river.
– We are in discussions with the municipality about a development of the park area there, Sanna Orellano explains.
