The lay-offs will impact employees within the Materials business unit, which encompasses Revolt. Staff were notified during an internal meeting on Wednesday afternoon.

The primary reasons cited for these reductions are a decline in market prices for recycled materials and a slower-than-anticipated launch for Revolt.

According to Matti Kataja, Northvolt's head of communications, approximately 90 employees will be affected in total.

– Northvolt has informed employees within the Materials business unit that the company intends to downsize its workforce. We have also reported this to Arbetsförmedlingen (the Swedish Public Employment Service). The proposed changes will now undergo union negotiations, Kataja said to Norran.

When asked how many employees in Skellefteå will be affected, Kataja responded:

– We will not have a definitive number until the union negotiations are concluded.

– We have just received information that they want to restructure the organization, says Cecilia Löfbom, of trade union, IF Metall.

Negotiations have started this week, and according to Löfbom, Northvolt has not yet specified how many people will be affected.

– Approximately 170 people work at Revolt in Skellefteå. However, the exact number of employees impacted by the layoffs is currently unknown, as no specific figures have been released.
