Man, 65, dies in central Skellefteå drowning incident

At 12.44 on Wednesday, an alarm was received by SOS about a drowning incident between Viktoriabron and Parkbron in central Skellefteå. A major rescue effort was launched, but in the evening the police announced that a man aged 65 had died.

The police announced shortly after 18:00 in the evening that the person who was found, a 65-year-old man, has died.

Relatives have been notified and there are no suspicions of crime.

– We have recovered a person from the water, said Patrik Enberg, incident commander. The rescue operation has concluded, and the scene is being turned over to the police.

The rescue service has two boats in the water conducting the search.

– We also had people out scouting along the river. Drones have been up in the air, searching over hotspots, says Felicia Grape, alarm and command operator at the rescue service.

A large-scale rescue operation is underway near the river. According to an operator at the rescue service command center, the exact circumstances of the incident are still unclear. "A person was reportedly seen in the water, but is now missing," the operator said. Drones are currently being used to search the river area.
