The alarm came in just before 2:30 a.m., and initially, eight rescue vehicles were dispatched.

– However, in the end, we only needed four and the rest returned, says Nyberg.

The fire is said to have started in a sauna in the building. However, the sauna was not in use when it began to burn.

– The residents of the building were sitting and watching TV when they suddenly smelled smoke, so no one was in the sauna when it started to burn.

When the fire department arrived, the house was completely filled with smoke.

– Smoke was pouring out of the building, and the sauna was burning quite intensely.

The fire department's work continued throughout the night.

– It was fairly quick to extinguish the actual fire, but then we needed to ventilate and air the place out.

The fire department also had to remove the sauna and paneling from an adjacent relaxation area.

– There were some smoldering fires, and to access them, we had to remove the entire sauna and relaxation section.

The emergency services had to tear out the entire sauna where the fire started. It is unclear why the fire started.

Later on Sunday morning, the fire department is no longer carrying out on-site monitoring, but have checked the house at regular intervals.

– We are there to ensure everything is calm and there is no risk of a rekindling. We're going there again around 9 o'clock, it might be the last time, but we'll see. It's difficult to say at this moment, said Magnus Nyberg shortly after 8 o'clock on Sunday.

An ambulance was also dispatched to the scene. On Sunday morning, Region Västerbotten announced through a patient injury report that a person, a man in his 60s, is being treated at the hospital. The man is receiving moderate care in the intensive care unit at Skellefteå Hospital.

On their website, the police announced that the fire is being investigated as reckless endangerment. There is no information regarding any suspects.
