The power outage affecting 1200 customers of Skellefteå Kraft during Friday morning has now been largely resolved. There is no forecast yet for when all customers will have their power restored.
UPDATE: 11:45
More than 1,200 households in Skellefteå Kraft's power grid are currently experiencing a power outage, according to a company press release.
Around 1,500 customers south of Skellefteå, primarily located north and east of Burträsk, lost power at 10:30 AM.
"The area was hit by a severe thunderstorm earlier today," writes Elin Ala, press officer for Skellefteå Kraft. "We strongly suspect this weather event is responsible for several of the outages."
The largest outage, affecting approximately 1,200 customers, encompasses an area including the villages of Mjödvattnet, Renbergsvattnet, Lappvattnet, Vallen, and Hjoggböle.
"This particular outage is caused by an issue at a transformer station, most likely due to a lightning strike," Ala explains.
Skellefteå Kraft personnel are already en route to the affected location.
"We are working diligently to restore power to our customers as quickly as possible," the company assures.
Lightning strikes have been reported across the affected area. Additionally, hail has been observed near Innansjön outside Burträsk, with readers sending photos of hail covering the ground.
The rain appears to be moving towards central Skellefteå. However, thunderstorms and hail are often localized, making it difficult to predict their exact path. Lightning was reported in Tuböle at 10:31 AM.
The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) forecasts moderate rain in Skellefteå around lunchtime, continuing into the afternoon. Heavier rain is expected later in the day towards Arvidsjaur.
