Norran readers contacted us on Tuesday with a photo of a police officer's service weapon left on the floor of the gas station's toilet. When the newspaper called, employees confirmed that the gun was still there.
– The police haven't been to pick it up yet, the cashier said when contacted by the newspaper.
Norran spoke to a female witness who found the gun.
– I was in line for the bathroom when an older gentleman came out and asked if I was going in. I said I was, and then he said there was a police service weapon on the floor. We went and talked to the woman who worked there, but she had just started and hadn't seen any police, she said.
The station manager took care of the gun found on the floor.
– We had to leave, so I don't know what happened next, the witness said.
The manager of the gas station would not comment on the incident.
– You have to take all these matters to our communications department.
The witness Norran spoke to mentioned that finding the gun was unsettling.
– You're scared, even if it's just lying there. I've never seen a gun before. It's a relief that it wasn't a child or a criminal who found it; you never know what could have happened.
A police officer is suspected of misconduct after forgetting his weapon, and the case is being handled by the Special Investigations Unit, says police spokesperson, Malin Axroth.
The police would not say in which department the suspect works.
