At 17:00 on Wednesday the alarm was raised regarding a collision between a car and a moose. Firefighters, an ambulance and police were all sent to the scene and the road was closed. The accident happened at the crossroads near Höglandsnäs, where there is no wildlife protection fence. A truck was also involved, blocking the road in both directions.
Five people were in the car and all were taken to hospital by ambulance. Firefighters had to cut open the roof of the car to remove the occupants. The extent of the injuries was not immediately known. Later in the evening, police announced that a man in his mid-40s had died from injuries sustained in the accident, and his next of kin were being notified.
The other four people suffered minor injuries, and a man in his mid-50s was taken to Skellefteå hospital for treatment. Two men in their mid-40s and a woman in her mid-50s were also treated.
The moose did not survive the collision and the car had to be towed away The road was closed for about two hours during the rescue.
