Days are getting longer very quickly

The weather in Skellefteå and Västerbotten is expected to be cold and cloudy over the next few days. The days are also getting longer, with the sun staying up almost an hour longer each week. But it's not quite summer (or spring) just yet.

Wednesday is expected to be cloudy with occasional breaks in the clouds over Skellefteå. Thursday is also expected to be cloudy, while Friday will be quite clear and sunny, says meteorologist Linnea Rehn Wittskog at SMHI.

– The temperature on Wednesday is expected to be around minus 15 degrees Celsius. On Thursday and Friday, it will be around minus 10 degrees Celsius, she says.

There will be more clouds over Västerbotten over the weekend, but it doesn't look like there will be any snow. However, significant snowfall is expected in southern Sweden, where SMHI issued a warning on Wednesday.

– It's not going to move north, but to the south and east.

On Wednesday, the sun rises around 8 a.m. and sets around 3:30 p.m. In a week, the day will be almost an hour longer, says Rehn Wittskog.

– Then the sun rises around 7:40 a.m. and sets around 4 p.m. The days are getting longer, and this is the time of the year when it happens most quickly.

It is a high pressure system over Russia that is causing the current weather in Västerbotten. Calm weather is forecast for the rest of the week.

– It will be relatively calm winter weather. It's always difficult to determine cloudiness when there's a high pressure front says Wittskog.
