The incident began around 11 AM when the police attempted to pull over a car in the Anderstorp area.
– The police tried to stop the car for an inspection, but it didn't pull over. That's when the police initiated the pursuit. Initially, only a police car was involved, but a helicopter was quickly dispatched, said Elisabeth Glaas, a spokesperson for the police.
The police helicopter was seen over various parts of Skellefteå, but mostly around the Anderstorp area. After a short chase, the car was located.
– The car has been found, but not the driver, Glaas reported at 1:30 PM.
She mentioned that she did not have any information about any potential criminal suspicions, apart from the driver evading the police.
– At this point, I don't know if there will be any additional reports.
As to why a helicopter was deployed, she explained that there could be various reasons.
– It can be used when we believe it could be of assistance. The helicopter is stationed either in Östersund or Boden. Where it was at this time, I don't know. It could be that it was nearby for some reason, and that's why it was easy to utilize it, Glaas said.
