March 2022 was the first full month in which pandemic measures were lifted in Sweden. Furthermore, air travel in Skellefteå during March this year was up by almost 9% compared to the same period in 2019, which was the last "normal year".
Skellefteå Airport is one of the airports in Sweden that has recovered the fastest after the pandemic.
In March, nearly 27,400 domestic passengers traveled to or from Skellefteå, representing an increase of approximately 6,500 passengers or more than 31% compared to 2022. Additionally, international travel also increased due to more charter departures.
Skellefteå Airport currently has three operators for domestic scheduled traffic, with SAS and Ryanair flying to Arlanda and Bra flying to Bromma. As previously reported by Norran, Norwegian is now analyzing the possibility of re-establishing the Arlanda to Skellefteå route.
Starting from the summer program, which began at the end of March, there has also been an expansion and some adjustment of the traffic offering. SAS has expanded and now operates up to five daily departures on the Stockholm route. Ryanair has increased the number of departures from three to five per week, and BRA flies to and from Skellefteå on Thursdays and Sundays.
- The Skellefteå region is in an expansive phase with many investment projects and our mission is to help the region's companies and residents get good air communications. 2023 currently looks very positive with increases in both domestic traffic and international traffic, says Skellefteå Airport CEO, Robert Lindberg in a press release.
