New laser tag venue to open in summer 2024

It has been more than a decade since the people of Skellefteå have been able to "battle" with each other indoors. But this summer it will be possible again when a new laser tag facility opens in the town. "It's exciting," says owner Michael Dahlberg.

This week Norran reported that the second-hand shop Solkraft Rondellen will move to Hammarängen after 15 years in the Norrvalla area.

Praktiska Gymnasiet wanted to take over the premises, but was turned down by the municipality. The site is considered unsuitable for educational activities.

– It is unfortunate, but we understand why the decision was made, says owner Michael Dahlberg.

Dahlberg has now found another solution. The large property on Boviksvägen will be transformed into an activity centre with a laser tag arena covering the entire ground floor, where there is currently a retail area. The area is about 700 square metres.

Michael himself, together with his wife Petra Dahlberg, will run the facility.

– There will also be opportunities for after-work events, team building, various types of kick-offs and parties. We will have a cafeteria and conference rooms.

The action game laser tag, known in Sweden as laser dome, has existed in Skellefteå before. Until the mid-2000s, it could be played at Megazone on Södra Järnvägsgatan. And more than a decade ago, Fort Nocks on Magasinsgränd took over for a while.

Dahlberg believes the time is right for a fresh start.

– I think we can fill a gap. I don't really feel that there is an activity centre for young people at the moment. In addition, we can probably attract a lot of people who work at Northvolt, he says.

Michael and Petra Dahlberg will run the new venture.

Work on the conversion of the premises will begin on June 1, and Dahlberg expects the opening to take place at the end of the summer. The new entertainment venue has not yet been given a name.

– But we know we will employ about six people and be open six to seven days a week. It's quite a significant investment; probably several million kronor.

Laser tag

Laser tag is sometimes also called laserdome or lasergame in Sweden.

It's a team sport where players try to score as many points as possible by shooting at various targets, usually opponents or stationary objects.

Laser tag is played in a dark indoor arena. Players use a type of plastic gun with low-voltage lasers to score points.
