Last Thursday, ICBV (Information Center for the Bothnian Sea) at the County Administrative Board received reports of suspected algae bloom in Finnhällan, east of Boviksbadet. Water samples were taken and sent to Umeå Marine Research Center for analysis. The results are now in, and the samples contained the potentially toxin-producing cyanobacterium dolichospermum.

ICBV advises the public to avoid contact with the water as long as there are algal accumulations on the surface or if the water is murky. This is especially important for children and dogs, as they can easily ingest the bacteria in their mouths, which can cause serious illness.

Readers who have contacted Norran have also observed algae bloom at Södra Sillskatan.
