Kolkajen is a 14,000 square meter area in Sävenäs, Skelleftehamn, previously used for port and industrial purposes. The area's remediation project was completed in the autumn of 2023, and it is now being planned as a park and recreational area.
– Now that the remediation of Kolkajen is complete, it’s time to draft a new development plan that will allow us to create a pleasant space for residents, says Annamaria Hedlund (S), chair of the building and environmental committee.
Adjacent to Kolkajen is Kurjoviken's marina, which accommodates around 200 boats, a restaurant with a nearby padel court, and a bus stop. According to the decision, the development plan aims to “create a meeting place through a park and recreational environment that connects Skelleftehamn with the sea.”
The plan also seeks to improve the traffic environment in the northern part of the area, enabling pedestrians and cyclists to access the site more easily. Additionally, the plan will explore better solutions for managing stormwater.
The area will be used during Society Expo, a global event hosted by Skellefteå municipality in 2026.
