Deciding how the new rubbish bins are to be delivered has been like a big puzzle. The reason is that the old ones must be emptied just before the changeover and the new districts are not like the old ones.
That is why the whole plan is not decided, the municipality has only made a set decision for the first two weeks. They will look like this:
Week 12, starting 17 March: Morön, parts of Ursviken, Alhem, Boviken, Skelleftehamn, Södra Sillskatan.
Week 13, starting 24 March: Bergsbyn, Tuvan, Stackgrönnan, Ursviken (Penningskrinet), Varuträsk, Skråmträsk, Innervik, Örviken.
The rest will be decided in stages and information will go out on the municipality website. Each customer will also get a personal letter home about the changes.
The surrounding areas of Skellefteå will also get their new bins but the delivery of these will start after Easter.
There is a capacity of delivery of 300 new bins each day.
Changes will be made the day after the regular bin collection. The customers will be encouraged to leave their bins out on the street/by the road and if everything goes according to plan they will be replaced the next day.
– During this time we hope that people can hold on to their waste and not put them in the old bins. But if they absolutely have to put anything there we will take care of it, says Cecilia Crampelle, project manager for the changeover at the waste department.
– As soon as you’ve got the new bins those are the ones to use, she continues.
The new bins will arrive with a sticker over the opening. The bin lorry driver will then see if it has been used the first time they come to collect and they will also know whether the information bag has been removed.
One of the compartments contains a bag with information about the new system as well as a funnel that people can use when throwing out deep fat fryer oil and other liquid cooking fat.
– The brochure contains many images so that everyone will understand how to sort their waste regardless of language. We hope that the new system will mean that people sort their waste better when it becomes simpler, says waste adviser Katarina Bergsten.
The delivery of bins will be carried out by the company PWS which is tasked with the job. At latest at the end of May they will be delivered to everyone in the whole municipality who lives in a one- or two-family house. The new scheme includes 18,000 households.
The old bins will partially be kept by the municipality. Multi-storey dwellings continue to have regular bins as does summer houses. However, many bins will be leftover especially the green ones of the smallest size and PWS will take care of those and grind them down for material recycling. In the end they will become new bins.
