Police suspend moose hunting as search intensifies

Police have imposed a hunting ban in a coastal area where a woman is missing. A large-scale search operation is underway, involving a police helicopter, dog handlers, mountain rescuers, and Missing People.

On Wednesday evening, police were notified of a missing woman in her 80s. She was last seen that afternoon at her home in Norum.

By Thursday lunchtime, the search had been escalated with additional resources and a helicopter. The search continued through the night and into Friday.

On Friday morning, Missing People joined the search efforts. Approximately 40 volunteers gathered at Bygdegården in Norum at 9:30 AM.

– When there are smaller communities, people really step up, said Martin Persson, Missing People's search leader.'

– I'm very pleased with the turnout. You never know what might happen.

Throughout the day, Missing People relied on volunteers. Meanwhile, police were also searching with helicopters, drones, and dog handlers. Mountain rescuers and the home guard were also involved.

Also on Friday morning, police announced on their website that hunting had been temporarily banned in a coastal area, effective until Monday. This decision was made in accordance with the Rescue Services Act and may be subject to change.
