In recent years, one of the stages has been held in Bygdsiljum, a popular track that was revamped for 2024 and will remain unchanged for 2025.
The big news, however, is the introduction of a brand-new route just north of Bygdsiljum, along Andersvattnet.
– A new stage and 20 kilometers of pure rally excitement. It’s a fantastic road that includes what I’d call "dancing on the road," says Rally Sweden event director Erik Åström to vk.se.
This new stage means that Skellefteå municipality will play an even bigger role in this winter's major rally event in Västerbotten.
– We’ve now decided to go further north, where we already have two stages from previous years. Bygdsiljum is a bit out of the way, so we want to group each day’s stages together, creating a "northern day," an "Umeå day," and a "west day." Rally planning is a complex puzzle, and we aim to minimize transport and avoid multiple refueling stops. Plus, there are TV schedules and other factors to consider—it's not just about finding a good road, explains Åström.
Another new stage, called "Bäck," located north of Bygdeå, is described as coastal and technically challenging with fast sections.
– It feels like we’ve secured some real rally gems, says Åström.
It’s also confirmed that the previous stages—Håkmark, Brattby, Norrby, and Floda—will not return next year.
The world championship rally in Västerbotten will take place from February 13-16, 2025.
