Five people have died in connection with a hoist, made by Skellefteå company, Alimak, that fell from a great height at a construction site in Sundbyberg, according to the prosecutor's office.
In a press release, the prosecutor's office states that the classification of the ongoing investigation is a workplace-related crime involving manslaughter, a serious offense.
– This is a serious incident that we are now investigating. Five people have been confirmed dead. Work is ongoing to establish the identities of the deceased, while contact is being made with the relatives, says chief prosecutor Gunnar Jonasson of the national environmental and occupational health prosecution unit in the press release.
–The technical investigation is continuing and the Swedish Accident Investigation Board is working at the scene.
An eyewitness told Dagens Nyheter that the bodies were "very disfigured". According to the newspaper, there was a wheelbarrow in the construction hoist which was loaded with items that may have contributed to the extensive injuries of the deceased, making their identification difficult.
