From Germany to Dragnäs: a Nordic dream realized

Lapland Adventures is a brand-new venture in the tourism industry in Norsjö, led by Jennifer and Bastian Lutz. They relocated to Dragnäs in early August, situated between Nicknoret and Glommersträsk.

Jennifer and Bastian have made great strides in promoting their camping and cabin rental business through social media marketing and have already seen positive results.

– We bought the house and property from another German couple who had invested in a similar business, but on a smaller scale, explains Jennifer Lutz.

Apart from the campground and cabin, the couple has ambitious plans for other activities in the area. They have expanded their kennel for their six Alaskan huskies and are planning to add more dogs. These dogs will be used for sled dog tours and trekking. They also plan activities such as canoeing, snowmobiling, fishing, and snowshoeing.

– In the near future, our Shetland ponies will arrive so that we can also offer pony rides, Jennifer adds. She has a background as a manager for eight McDonald's restaurants in Germany and values the hospitality skills she acquired during her time there.

When the couple's daughter, Ylvie, was born four years ago, Jennifer decided to completely change her career.

– Running restaurants is not particularly conducive to having a calm and fulfilling family life. However, from my time at McDonald's, I naturally carry with me the hospitality aspect, which is a crucial part of their corporate culture.

Jennifer and Bastian moved to Dragnäs from the town of Erbach, near Frankfurt am Main. Jennifer introduced the family to her passion for dogs in 2017.

– I got involved in taking care of dogs that had difficult lives, and I developed a particular fondness for Alaskan huskies. We bought our first one, Mille, in 2019, she recalls.

Training the dogs in the woods around Erbach proved to be a challenge.

– In Germany, joggers with dogs in the woods are not well received, especially by hunters, Bastian explains.

In April of this year, Bastian visited Dragnäs to inspect the property, which was for sale.

– It suited us perfectly, he remarks.

Bastian is currently on leave from his job at a hospital in Germany, where he primarily focuses on sports injury rehabilitation.

– By the end of February next year, if all paperwork is in order, I will also begin organizing workshops related to this field, and Jennifer will lead various dog training courses, including how the owner and the dog can become a team, Bastian says.

– Additionally, I have specialized in alternative medical treatments for dogs, such as acupuncture and homeopathy, Jennifer concludes.
