Piotr Stasiuk's projects are substantial. Currently, he's renovating a 225-square-metre house in Rengård into a holiday accommodation with six apartments, complete with a sauna and gym in the basement.
– We expect it to be ready by the summer. Then, we will renovate another house in the village into an apartment hotel, he tells Norran.
These are substantial ventures undertaken by Stasiuk. Even more ambitious are his plans for a completely new hotel on Rengårdsberget.
– I own the land there and aim to build 4–6 rental buildings designed like binoculars and telescopes, he says.
The holiday accommodations currently being completed represent a multi-million kronor investment, and he estimates the Rengårdsberget hotel will cost approximately 20 million kronor to construct. These buildings will be elevated on ten-metre stilts for added height.
– In addition, I need to build a road up to the top of the mountain.
He currently has two architects in Poland working on the designs, which should be completed in three to four months.
– After that, it’s about obtaining building permits and other necessary approvals. So, I hope the buildings will be completed within one to two years, he explains.
Piotr notes that those staying on the mountain will enjoy fantastic views in several directions, including the Skellefte River.
– I am already in contact with many Poles interested in coming here, says Piotr, who lives in Gdynia, near Gdansk.
He says that Ryanair's regular route to Gdansk has facilitated increased tourism from Poland and other parts of Europe that use Gdansk as a hub.
– Since that route started, I have helped many Swedes discover this part of Poland and also Poles who visit Skellefteå.
Piotr believes "coolcations," travelling to cooler climates for holidays, will see rapid growth.
– Both Austria and Italy don’t have much snow these days, and in Gdansk, we've only had two days of snow this winter.
His other major project is establishing a drone pilot training center, including training for the single-person Jetson One aircraft.
– The Bredsele Park parking lot in Kusfors would be ideal for takeoffs and landings. We need to obtain several permits before starting this project.
He plans to purchase several advanced drones that aspiring pilots will learn to fly with expert support.
– I am in contact with several interested parties, and discussions have begun with Kusfors Idrottsklubb, which operates Bredsele Park.
He also expects to launch this project within one to two years.
But who is this 53-year-old Polish man who speaks Danish, and how did he come to be in Rengård?
Piotr's primary business is logistics. He manages a transport company with approximately 100 trucks, which he leases from other operators. These trucks specialise in refrigerated transport across Europe, primarily within the Nordic countries.
– Among other things, we transport salmon from Norway to Poland for smoking, then return the smoked salmon to Nordic stores, primarily in Sweden.
Originally from Gdansk, Piotr trained in logistics in Denmark. Before starting his own business, he worked as a logistics manager for DSV, a large Danish transport company.
He specialises in cross-docking refrigerated goods.
– It’s a logistics process where products from suppliers or manufacturers are transferred directly to a customer, with minimal or no storage time in between, explains Piotr.
Last year, his company, LTL-Logistics, with 25 employees, generated approximately 120 million kronor in revenue.
– The first time I came to Rengård was in 2015 while searching for a suitable location for a transshipment station. That didn’t materialise, but I fell in love with the region.
He purchased the Rengård houses, which he's now fully renovating, at an auction. He's hired Polish builders for the renovations and visits every other month.
– I am also building collaborations and networks with local businesses that offer various activities. There are several excellent ones, including Flarken Adventure, which offers dog sledding, concludes Piotr.
