Mountain rescuers have been called out to search the area, with the help of dogs.
Helicopters have also been dispatched. There's been no news yet of any casualties.
Update 1.45pm:
One person, a soldier, has been found in the avalanche, the police say.
The person has been taken by helicopter for medical care in Norway.
The condition of the person is not known.
Police also state that there are no more people affected by the avalanche.
