Bust a move at Sara kulturhus!

In collaboration with Dans i Nord, Sara kulturhus invites everyone to an evening of dancing on Saturday night. The whole event will end with live music and an invitation to the audience to get their groove on, says Emmy Gustafsson Wass, project manager and event coordinator at Sara.

"It's important for us to have a good collaboration with local cultural bodies," says Emmy Gustafsson Wass, who is also the project manager and producer for the event.

The evening commences with a world premiere by professional dance company Dans i Nord, presenting their dance performance "Beyond Words 8". They have also invited an English singer, Ryan Molloy, once of Frankie Goes To Hollywood, who will be accompanied by the Skellefteå-based 13-member band "Reclaim the Music." The dance floor is open to all.

What's in store for the audience?

– The audience will be treated to a triple treat that includes performing arts, live music, and an open dance floor. All the participants maintain a high level of expertise in dance, music, and performance, which I believe will captivate the audience and leave them wanting more.

How is dance thought of in Skellefteå?

– We have a strong dance tradition in Skellefteå when it comes to practice, with many active dancers. We were among the first municipalities in Sweden to introduce mandatory dance in primary school, and Boliden's children's ballet offered high-quality dance education early on, which lives on through the large number of dancers in Skellefteå today. However, when it comes to dance as a performing art, we still have some way to go as we've lacked venues and organizers, but there is a significant interest in dance as a whole.

What is the level of interest in dance performances among the public in Skellefteå?

– Since the dance offerings have long been relatively limited, many have yet to discover the experience. Dance is incredibly diverse, much like music, and therefore one dance experience is not like another. We need to embark on a journey to help the people of Skellefteå understand both what they can expect and what they may be missing out on. Historically, dance in Skellefteå has been offered on a small scale, and Sara, with all its stages, offers the opportunity to create a wider range of offerings in all cultural genres.

Major dance event at Sara. Sara kulturhus, in collaboration with "Dans i Nord," aims to spotlight dance throughout the northern region. They are inviting everyone to a full evening centered on dance.

At the end of the evening, people will have the chance to dance to live music. What do you expect?

I expect an evening with a fantastic atmosphere and that euphoric feeling you get when dancing. I am also really looking forward to an evening where everyone feels free to dance how they want, whether it is tap dancing or disco!

"Dance is something that historically has been offered quite sparingly and on a small scale in Skellefteå. Sara, with all its stages, provides the opportunity to create a broader range of offerings within all cultural genres, not just music," says Emmy Gustafsson Wass.
