Skellefteå's growth inspires creativity

There will be several interactive public works when the Konstnärsföreningen Skogen (Skogen Artist Association) exhibits in the city.

One of the eight artworks is ”Den saknade luften” ("The Missing Air") by Åsa Rehnström. "Things in Skellefteå are being built higher and denser, and that makes me think: where is the human scale? Skellefteå has always been a small town, and now it is getting bigger."

Konstnärsföreningen Skogen is presenting SKAV - Skellefteå Art Vision - on October 6-7, an art event with temporary works where visitors can participate in creative thinking about Skellefteå's expansion.

– It is a pilot project, and we hope that it will be repeated, says Marie Lindgren, president of Konstnärsföreningen Skogen.

Åtta tillfälliga konstverk på åtta ställen i Skellefteå.

This year, there are eight temporary works in eight different locations in the city center.

– You could say it's a continuation of  "Tid av Transformation" ("The Time of Transformation"), which we exhibited in Nordanå in November last year, but it's now more focused on the artist's process and the art itself, says Lindgren.

The participating artists include Shirly Holmberg, Gun-Britt Forslund, Marie Lindgren, Sonia Sjögren, Malin Nilsson, Åsa Rehnström, Karin Nordgren and Camilla Lundstedt.

–There will be some interactive elements where passers-by can participate in the development of the art. There will also be an opportunity to take part in a workshop in the square, open to the public and passers-by, says Lindgren.

– Things in Skellefteå are being built higher and denser, and that makes me think: where is the human scale? Skellefteå has always been a small town, and now it is getting bigger. I don't really have an opinion about it, because there are as many opinions as there are people. But it is interesting to let art communicate the processes that take place in the city, says Renhström.
