Skellefteå AIK has announced the dismissal of head coach Robert Ohlsson. The decision was communicated to the team and subsequently to the media.
"We thank Robert for his time as head coach, during which he led the team to the CHL finals and two SHL finals, culminating in last year's Swedish Championship gold," said General Manager Erik Forssell in a press release. "We remain committed to the club and share a collective desire to win through our style of play and continued development. We are excited to tackle the remainder of the season with the goal of winning the CHL and defending our Swedish Championship title."
In an interview with Norran, Forssell elaborated on the decision to make a change within the coaching staff, emphasizing that it was not solely due to recent on-ice performance.
– This was a difficult decision, but we believe it's in the best interest of the club, Forssell explained.
– As head coach, one is the public face of the entire organization, and there's a responsibility to represent not only the first team but the entirety of Skellefteå AIK.
When asked if the team's recent poor performance had influenced the decision, Forssell clarified:
– No, the results haven't impacted the decision in that sense.
Regarding Ohlsson's reaction to the news, Forssell said:
– My impression is that he was disappointed, but we had a good and calm conversation.
Andreas Falk and Pierre Johnsson will take over as joint head coaches.
