Under the guidance of coach Robert Ohlsson, AIK started the match with playoff-like intensity, with Martins Dzierkals quickly demonstrating that goal-scoring need not be complicated, giving his new club an early lead with a simple corner shot.

AIK gained momentum with a powerplay, as Jonathan Pudas's point shot found the net after a deflection from Rickard Hugg.

The reigning CHL champions mounted a comeback. Carter Camper scored for Tappara, and a late-period powerplay added another goal for them.

In the middle period, AIK showcased their class. Pär Lindholm orchestrated a beautiful pass from behind the net to Simon Robertsson, who scored from the slot. Linus Lindström and Axel Sandin Pellikka extended the lead to 2-5.

The third period was calmer, with AIK's systematic play stifling Tappara's offense. The home team managed a consolation goal, but AIK remained in control to secure a confidence-boosting win ahead of next week's opening game of the SHL.
