– Navigating the Lincoln Sea, known for its challenging ice conditions, is no easy feat, said Martin Jakobsson, a researcher aboard the Oden, to Swedish Radio.
– No ship has ever ventured this far before.
The researchers will conduct seven projects related to climate change, including studying the potential impact of warm Atlantic water on the C.H. Ostenfeld Glacier. They have already observed that these warm currents are reaching higher latitudes than previously thought.
– It's difficult to attribute this phenomenon to anything other than climate change, Jakobsson told Sverige Radio.
The research team will also examine melt processes at ice edges, study animal remains, and collect rock samples.
The expedition is called 'Geoeo North of Greenland 2024.'
