In total there are 50 activities to choose from at this year’s Nordsken that takes place at Sara kulturhus 28 and 29 December.
– Previously it has been possible to go through the festival fairly quickly. But now the idea is for it to take a whole day, says Tina Ekvall, project manager of Nordsken.
One new event this year is the nerd quiz where both children and adults can test their knowledge. Another novelty is the Open Stage where you as a visitor can sign up and do a performance that is no more than four minutes long.
This is the second year in a row that Nordsken is held at Sara kulturhus. Previous years the festival has been at Skellefteå Kraft Arena. The reason for the move was that the event organisers wanted to scale down it down somewhat. When Nordsken was bigger there were difficulties such as finding enough volunteers.
– It became too big. That is why we feel more at home now at Sara kulturhus. Still, we beat a visitor record last year with about 10,000 visitors, says Therese Szanto, head of communications.
The reason for the increase in guests may be that the festival became free of entry when it moved. No ticket is needed this year either and the organisers are counting on similar visitor numbers this year.
Why is the festival so well-liked?
– There are more nerds than you might think. Especially since the selection is so broad including board games, computer games, e-sport, tournaments and family events, says Therese Szanto.
What is the volunteer situation like now, has it become easier to fill the positions?
– There has been a great response. This year we have 55 volunteers and there has not been any issues finding them. It's private individuals who give their time and it's amazing that the commitment to contribute to Nordsken is so great, says Tina Ekvall.
