Earlier this autumn the company submitted an application for a solar park in Skellefteå, which then concerned an area of 60 hectares near Österjörn where the facility will have an effect of approximately 55 MW.
The company has submitted an additional application to Länsstyrelsen for consultation under the environmental code for a solar energy park. It concerns an area with an available area in Fällfors of 150 hectares, with the available area permissable to use being 120 hectares.
"The planned plant is expected to have a capacity of approximately 83 MW. The installed capacity may change depending on the choice of solar panels and the capacity of the grid. The estimated electricity production from the plant is approximately 101,000 MWh per year, which is equivalent to the electricity consumption of approximately 40,400 apartment households or approximately 20,200 houses," the company said in its application, "which means that it is significantly larger than the one near Österjörn."
"If approved, it will be one of the largest solar parks in Sweden in terms of capacity. According to media reports earlier this year, parks in Vittskövle and Hultsfred were planned to be of approximately the same size and were considered to be the largest in the country.
"Länsstyrelsen has now asked for comments on the solar cell park at Fällfors 3:34 and Fällfors 3:49.
They are seeking input on several aspects, including 'the possibilities for the solar cell park to coexist with the current motor track and whether there is any history related to the motor track/area that is important for Länsstyrelsen to consider before making future decisions.
Skellefteå municipality responded in its statement:
""As there is no information on how exactly they intend to establish the solar cell park, it is difficult to consider whether there are risks associated with the motor track. The Department of Community Development and Environment assumes that they have been in contact with Drive Center about the plans and that they can make statements about suitable locations in the area."
Another aspect raised ahead of the consultation is the fact that a part of the area was previously Fällfors military airfield. Environmental ground investigations have been carried out there, primarily regarding PFAS but also other substances such as metals, and more.
"PFAS appears to be the only confirmed contaminant posing a risk to human health and the environment... If a solar cell park is to proceed, the area should be remediated with regard to PFAS," the municipality writes in its statement.
