It was a brilliant, fun evening at One Country, One Evening - Romania.
After last month's Egyptian event, the third "One Evening - One Country" last night turned its spotlight on Romania. An interesting presentation explored the rich history and traditions of this southern European nation kicked off proceedings, before a fantastic spread of food was eagerly sampled.
Local Swedes actively participated, asking questions during the informative presentation, engaging in conversation with newcomers from Romania, digging in to the very tasty Romanian cuisine, and even dancing at the end of the evening!

The Norran team was present to capture the event with photos and to chat to one of the organizers, Marina Georgescu of Expats & Friends in Skellefteå.
What did you hope to achieve with this event?
– We hoped to achieve a space where Skellefteå’s international community can share their love for their homelands with others. To introduce themselves, and show where they come from.
– When people learn more about other peoples' cultures, then it opens spaces for better understanding and communication - it also helps them to feel welcome. And since food is a universal connector, to include this is always fun and interesting. There is always excitement, but also challenges when moving to a new place.
– For many, being away from friends and family can be difficult, so these events helps create a sense of community. The possibility to interact and mingle and feel safe to express who you are and where you come from, and share it with others. This is an important element for integration to be successful, and for people to decide to stay and live in Skellefteå.
Was the evening a success?
– Definitely! To see different age groups, and different people from varied backgrounds and nationalities come together and enjoy themselves is always a success.
–As humans, we need to connect, to find our tribe, and a multicultural one is always the best option. The world is growing, and we need to understand each other and establish better ways of communication and collaboration, from the micro of a small community in Skellefteå, to the broader picture of an integrated Sweden, and an international world community that thrives on the well-being of all of us as a whole.
– Together we are stronger, something that will always open new opportunities for growth and development.
